  12. Thank you for purchasing Monster Media No. 15. We have made every effort
  13. to ensure that this disc contains programs that were either written,
  14. updated or released between April 1 and June 30, 1996. This ensures
  15. that the files you receive are the latest available and also eliminates
  16. any duplicates between Monster Media discs.

  18. To install the Monster Media DOS File Viewer, change to your CD-ROM directory
  19. and type "SETUPDOS.BAT". Follow the prompts. You will then be presented with
  20. the text file you are reading now. Please read this to find out how to install
  21. the graphics viewer and other features.

  23. Total installation requires approximately 1.5 Megs of hard drive space.
  24.  
  25. To view many of the images on the discs, you will need to install a file
  26. viewer. We have included CompuShow v8.76 in the Monster directory. This
  27. program will directly interface with VIEWCD. To install the necessary files,
  28. please run the files CSHOWA.EXE. It is a self extracting file that will
  29. install itself to a directory on your hard drive. To allow VIEWCD to find
  30. CompuShow, it must either be in your path (add it to the end of the PATH
  31. statement in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file) or copy the files into the directory you
  32. installed the Monster Media files to.

  40. COMPUSHOW v8.76 is copyrighted 1994 by Canyon State Systems and Software and
  41. is supplied for evaluation purposes only. If you continue to use CompuShow
  42. v8.76, you are required to register this program with the author. There are
  43. also many other very fine image viewers which may be found in the GRAPHICS
  44. directory.

  46. To view animations, GIF, PCX, TGA, JPG and MPeg files on the disc, just
  47. press the F2 key when the file you wish to view is highlighted.

  49. By default VIEWCD uses AAPlay, MPeg and CompuShow as it's image viewers. These
  50. are not the only viewers you can use. If you'd like to try another image
  51. viewer, please look in the GRAPHICS directory for many other fine programs.
  52. If you experience problems viewing images you may have low conventional memory
  53. or you need a VESA driver.

  55. VIEWCD uses Info-Zip's UnZip to decompress the files on this disc. UnZip is
  56. in the MONSTER directory.

  59. You may use this version of ViewCD on ALL of your Monster Media discs. You
  60. no longer need to keep seperate directories for each disc. You also no longer
  61. need all of the DIR files, as ViewCD now reads the file directories and
  62. descriptions right off of the disc that's in your drive.

  64. To start VIEWCD at any time, type the following at the DOS Prompt:

  68. If you would like to make a database to enable you to search all files for
  69. a keyword, or you would like to make databases for other Monster Media discs,
  70. choose OTHER from the Main Menu and then Choose the option MAKE SEARCH DATA
  71. FILE. Make sure you have the disc in the CD-ROM that you want to make a
  72. database of. Name each database with a unique name (ie. Monster
  73. Media No. 11 could be named media_11). When you want to do a search just
  74. pick the database you'd like to search and find that file FAST! We have
  75. already included the DAT file for this disc, but you may add other Monster
  76. Media discs using this procedure.

  83. If this is your first time using the Windows viewer, you MUST install a
  84. few support files BEFORE you can use the CD-ROM viewer.

  86. If you are running Windows 3.1 run SETUP_31.BAT in the main directory of
  87. the Monster Media CD-ROM.
  88.  
  89. If you are running Win 95/NT run SETUP_95.BAT in the main directory of
  90. the Monster Media CD-ROM.

  92. Alternately you may use the Windows run command. Just enter:
  93.  
  94.            x:\SETUPxx.BAT
  95.            ^       ^^

  100. The setup file will install the support files to your Windows System Directory.
  101. Most of these files will probably be there, so they won't actually be copied,
  102. but you probably will need a few of them. It will also create an UNINSTALL
  103. file you can use if you'd like to clear out the Monster Media CD-ROM File
  104. Manager's support files.
  105.  
  106. If you run the viewer from the Hard Drive, the program will ask you for your
  107. CD-ROM drive. If you run the viewer from the CD-ROM drive, the program will
  108. start automatically. The MView EXE file is in the MVIEW16 (for Win 3.1)  or
  109. MVIEW32 (for Win 95/NT) directory on the CD-ROM.

  111. You will achieve best results by using this viewer in either 800x600 or
  112. 1024x768 mode and SMALL fonts. However, it will still work fine if using LARGE
  113. fonts or a resolution greater than suggested. We are not supporting 640x480 at
  114. this time because of the amount of information that must be presented on the
  115. screen. 640x480 places severe restrictions on this.

  117. If you have had problems installing the Monster Media Windows file viewer and
  118. have received errors such as "Unable to load/register XXXXXXXX.OCX", then
  119. please try our fix file located in the MMVIEWFX directory. There are fixes
  120. for both the 16 and 32 bit versions of the Windows viewer.

  122. Please check our Website (http:\\www.monstermedia.com\~mmedia) for new updates
  123. as they become available.

  126. For those programs that require a VBRUN300.DLL runtime library, you can
  127. find them included within the folling files:

  136. Copy them to your C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory and any program that needs to
  137. load one of these files will be able to find them.

  139. If your programs require the newer Visual Basic 4.0 support files, you can
  140. find both the 160bit and 32-bit versions in the root directory of the
  141. Monster Media CD-ROM.

  144. IMPORTANT!  To speed up the loading of the various file listings while in
  145. ViewCD, it is suggested that the buffers in MSCDEX be set for 18 or more.
  146. This will greatly decrease loading time.

  149. We have provided database files for several popular CD-ROM BBS Doors: DreamROM,
  150. EZ-ROM, ROMBrain, ROMDoor and SF-ROM. Just plug the correct files into your
  151. door as required for that particular door.

  153. You will also find specific BBS file listings in various locations as required
  154. by that particular BBS. Please read SYSOP.TXT for the listing and locations of
  155. the specific BBS formats.
